S&W Kitchens has won the Kitchen Grand Prize in the Remodeling Design Awards sponsored by Remodeling Magazine and Hanley Wood. This is the third award for this project in 2018 – it also won a National Award from Chrysalis Design Contest and a Gold Award from the Master Design Contest!
Krista Agapito is the designer of this amazing space. Built in the 1920’s in Winter Park, Florida the home has a classic Mediterranean style and the homeowners wanted to honor that style while opening up the floor plan into the adjacent nook and bring modern functionality to the kitchen.

A 1990’s renovation had left the kitchen out of touch with the rest of the home. No walls could be removed, so the transformation was largely based on the finishes Krista and the homeowners chose and the reorientation of the appliances and the bar seating area.
Krista says, “The transformation in this space, without changing any walls is incredible. The kitchen is now larger, functional, and conducive to entertaining.” Hiding the microwave and trash in special base cabinets and paneling the old dishwasher like the cabinets gives the space a continuity and makes it feel much larger.
